Art Historical Significance

David Hockney (b. 1937) emerged in the 1960s as a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, yet his work defies easy categorization. His series of Los Angeles swimming pools, created between 1964 and 1971, are among the most recognizable images in modern art. Works like 'A Bigger Splash' and 'Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)' not only celebrate the California lifestyle but also explore the physics of light and water with a unique graphic clarity. This poster pays homage to Hockney's mastery of color and perspective.
